Any time you are working on your code and you would like to show that a condition that is abnormal occurs inside the code, it is time to use the exceptions. There are a few of these conditions that the code won’t allow. For example, if you are writing your code, you may find that you put the wrong statement inside or you didn’t spell it correctly. This could create an abnormal condition as your Python interpreter is not able to find what you are trying to do and an error message may come up.

In addition to having abnormal conditions occur within the code, there are times when a programmer will be able to add in their own exceptions. In these cases, the interpreter will look at the input that the user places inside and will see that there is nothing wrong, but because of how the code is written, you want to make the exception show. For example, if you have someone who is using your code who is 17 and you don’t want to let people who are under 18 place something into the code, you could make this into an exception. You would tell the code how you want it to behave in this situation, even though this would be something that the program would normally allow.
